Panguni Uthiram Celebration
Sunday, 31 Mar 2024

The Significance of Panguni Uttiram

Panguni Uthiram falls on the day the moon transits in Uttara Phalguni / Uthiram Nakshatra. It is the full moon of the month of Panguni. This month is special because the Uthiram Nakshatra coincides with the full moon. This full moon signifies
  1. The marriage of Devi Parvati and Parameswara (Lord Shiva), Lord Muruga (Subramanya/Karthikeya) and Deivanai, and Aandaal (also known as Kothai) and Rangamannar
  2. The day of Lord Ayyappan's incarnation
  3. Goddess Mahalakshmi's incarnation on earth from the ocean of milk (after the ocean was churned by the Gods and the demons) and hence it is celebrated as Mahalakshmi Jayanti
According to Valmiki's Ramayana, it is said that on this day and star that Sita's marriage with Rama was celebrated.

From Brahmanda Puranam, we learn that on Panguni Uttiram every holy water joins Thumburu Teertha/Tirtha, which is one of seven sacred tanks in Tirupati Tirumala.

Panguni Uthiram signifies the importance of relationships in our lives. Relationships are what build a strong society. On this day witnessing and participating in the divine weddings will correct problems in ones marriage and relationships and mark the beginning of healthy relationships in our own lives.

Subrahmanyaswamy Kalasha Puja will take place followed by Sri Subrahmanyaswamy Mahaabhishekam, Archana and Aarthi. Participating in these events are of great benefit to all.
