Nov 2nd (Thursday)- Pradosham

7:00 PM

  • Pradosham

The Purana regarding Pradosham:

When Devas and Asuras were churning the Ocean of Milk ("Thirupaarkadal" ) in order to obtain the Nectar of longevity ( Amritham), the serpent Vasuki coughed up the deadly Halahala (Aalala) poison. Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and all Devas got frightened and prayed to Lord Siva. Lord Siva drank the poison to save the Universe but the Divine Mother Parvathy held His neck tightly and prevented the poison from reaching His stomach. The Lord drank this poison on Saturday to save the Universe and hence saturday became a significant day. The Devas also prayed to Lord Siva and fasted on that Ekadasi day. They partook of meals on the next day, "Dvadasi"but forgot to pray to Lord Siva. After realizing their mistake, they prayed for forgiveness and Lord Siva forgave them and entered into a blissful dance on the next day, "Triyodasi", in the evening (Sandhyaakaalam) with his damaru and Soolam in between Nandi Devas Horns. This day is "Pradosham". It is believed that all the Devas and Gods are assembled in the Siva temples during Pradosham time.

During Pradosham, abhishekam will be performed for both Nandhi and Lord Siva and deeparadhana would be performed simulataneously. Since all the Gods would be assembled at the same time to watch this celestial dance, devotees who observe and pray to the Lord at this time would be blessed by all the Gods of the pantheon

According to the Vedic literature, Ganesha is the eldest son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi and he is the head of Pramadhaganas, hence Ganapathi. His brother is Kumaraswamy(Lord Muruga). Hindus worship Lord Ganesha with several other names like Vinayaka, Vighneswara, Gajanana and Ganapathi. Lord Ganapathi is said to be the form of Omkara. Om, which is written in Devanagari (script) is also considered as the pranava. In Om, the upper arc is said to be the head or the face of Gajanana. The Lower arc is his belly. The twisted arc, which is on the right side of Om is the trunk. Thus Omkara represents the complete physical form of Lord Ganesha. Similarly, yet another divine symbol, the Swastika is also worshipped as another form of Lord Ganesha. According to the Indian culture, both these symbols have divine values.

MYSTICAL BACKGROUND OF DEVI BHUVANESHWARI INSTALLATION AT THE PARASHAKTHI TEMPLE:

Divine Mother wished to have Her Devi Bhuvaneshwari aspect installed at the Parashakthi Temple. A year and a half ago, during meditation, Dr. Krishna Kumar was directed to meet a mystic who was an upasaka of Devi Bhuvaneshwari. The mystic gave a special mantra to Dr. Krishna Kumar to energize and charge the vigraha of Devi Bhuvaneshwari prior to the installation at the Parashakthi Temple. The vigraha has been made with panchalokha – five auspicious metals. Dr. Krishna Kumar has been invoking Devi Bhuvaneshwari using this mantra for more than a year to energize the vigraha. As directed by our Mother, the yantra pratishta of Devi Bhuvaneshwari took place on November 13th, 2005 and the mandala pooja was completed on December 30th, 2005.

The Divine Mother directed Dr. Krishna Kumar to meet the mystic again so as to have him make a yantra for the installation of Devi Bhuvaneshwari. During Dr. Kumar’s visit, the mystic gave his own yantra that he had meditated on for 20 years and through which he had invoked Devi Bhuvaneshwari. The mystic informed Dr. Kumar so that the installation at the Parashakthi Temple will have an intense manifestation of Devi Bhuvaneshwari. This is an event of tremendous significance, as a yogi who has been using a yantra for several years does not readily hand it over to anyone, that too to a stranger. It was Mother’s wish to be with us here at the Parashakthi Temple and Her will has been realized. We are truly fortunate to have Her in our midst and the spiritual and a wordly benefit, which she can bless us with, is immense.
