Arudra Darshan

One of the greatest and most recognizable symbols of Hinduism is the Nataraja (Lord of Dance) aspect of Lord Shiva. The cosmic dance represents five activities of Lord Shiva - Creation (symbolized by the drum), Protection (by the "fear not" hand gesture), Destruction (by the fire), Embodiment (by the foot planted on the ground), and Release (by the foot held aloft). In essence it represents the continuous cycle of creation and apocalypse. It takes place in every minute particle, for all of us to exist and act. That is the source of all the energy. His movement is Shakti.

As per the Puranaas, on this day Lord Shiva has shown this blissful dance that energizes this world to two of his devotees - Vyagrapadha and Adisesha (on whom Lord Vishnu Reside). Hence this day is celebrated, in appreciation of the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, by offering Prayers to the Nataraja aspect of the Lord.
